If there are a ton of results, that means there is a lot of competition and we should probably optimize for other keywords. On the other hand, if the search returns no results, then we can assume there is little competition and we will have an easier time ranking our blog post on Google SERPs.
So you have written a masterpiece blog article that will just blow the mind of every visitor that reads it but the problem is nobody has found it yet. Well you do not have to wait around for somebody to stumble across your blog. One option you have up your sleeve is to syndicate your content to different blogs. For example, blogs like LinkedIn Pulse and E-zine Articles offer a great outlet to recycle content to. It is a great avenue to expose your writing to a lot of people quickly and build some backlinks to your site in the process. As long as you link back to the original source of the article, Google’s algorithm will not penalize you for duplicate content.
If you wrote one article and it is not ranking for the keyword you expected, do not just stop there. Write another article aimed at the same or similar keyword. You can even link the second article to your first to create some deep linking on your blog. The more articles you have in the same niche, the better Google and other search engines understand the content you are publishing and the audience you are trying to reach.
At the end of the day, the quality of your content will decide how many visitors you generate. If your article is written poorly and generates a lot of bounces, Google will consider it less relevant and rank your blog lower.
